Jakarta, FU Online News – The Faculty of Ushuluddin at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta continues to strengthen its academic culture and scientific publication performance through the Training and Mentoring on Writing Articles for Reputable International Journals (Scopus), held on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) in the Faculty of Ushuluddin Meeting Room. The program was attended by the faculty's leadership and academic staff and featured Prof. Irwan Abdullah, Professor of Anthropology at Universitas Gadjah Mada, who has extensive experience as a trainer in writing articles for internationally reputable journals.

The training was part of the Faculty of Ushuluddin's commitment to improving the quality of research and increasing faculty members' publication productivity in internationally reputable journals. Throughout the program, Prof. Irwan Abdullah shared practical strategies for preparing scholarly articles with a high probability of acceptance in Scopus-indexed journals.

In his presentation, Prof. Irwan emphasized that high-quality scholarly articles should address current issues, demonstrate novelty, and make meaningful contributions to the advancement of knowledge at the global level. According to him, an article should not merely present research data but also offer strong findings and clear academic contributions.

In addition to discussing the characteristics of internationally reputable journal articles, the speaker explained in detail the structure of academic writing, covering the Introduction, Literature Review, Method, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion sections. Participants gained insights into the importance of establishing a clear research gap, developing strong scientific arguments, and appropriately integrating theoretical frameworks into the discussion section to enhance the competitiveness of their manuscripts in the international academic community.

During the publication strategy session, Prof. Irwan highlighted the importance of selecting journals that align with the research field, avoiding predatory journals, utilizing SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) as a reference for journal selection, and consistently adhering to journal templates and author guidelines. He also introduced the SPINS writing paradigm—Specific, Powerful, Important, Novelty, and Supported by Data—as a fundamental principle for producing high-quality scholarly articles.

The training was conducted in an interactive format through discussion and consultation sessions. Faculty members took the opportunity to discuss various challenges encountered during the writing and publication process of international journal articles. Prof. Irwan provided valuable feedback, ranging from strengthening research substance and academic arguments to strategies for responding effectively to the peer-review process.

Through this training, participants gained a more comprehensive understanding of the standards required for publishing in internationally reputable journals, as well as practical guidance on preparing manuscripts—from selecting research topics to the submission process. As a follow-up, the Faculty agreed to provide continued mentoring to assist lecturers in refining their manuscripts until submission to international journals that align with their respective fields of expertise.

The program concluded with the hope that this training and mentoring initiative would enhance the quality of research and scholarly publications produced by the Faculty of Ushuluddin's academic staff, while further strengthening the Faculty's academic reputation at both the national and international levels.
