Pekalongan, FU Online News – Professor of Maqashidi Qur’anic Exegesis at the Faculty of Ushuluddin, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Hasani, M.A., served as the keynote speaker at an academic seminar organized by the Qur’anic Studies and Exegesis Program, Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Da’wah, UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid (UIN Gus Dur) Pekalongan on Thursday (July 23, 2026).

Under the theme “From Munasabah to Maqashidi: An Integrative Approach to the Study of Qur’anic Exegesis,” the seminar was attended by lecturers, students, researchers, and scholars of Qur’anic studies from various higher education institutions. On the occasion, Prof. Hasani elaborated on the development of Qur’anic exegesis methodologies, which continue to evolve in response to contemporary challenges, one of which is the maqashidi approach to exegesis, emphasizing an understanding of the primary objectives (maqāṣid) of the Qur’an.

According to him, the development of maqashidi exegesis does not disregard the classical scholarly tradition. The study of munāsabah, which examines the relationships between verses and between surahs, instead serves as an important foundation for understanding the Qur’an’s message comprehensively. Integrating these two approaches makes it possible to develop interpretations that are methodologically robust while remaining relevant to various contemporary issues.

In his presentation, Prof. Hasani also emphasized the importance of interpreters’ ability to read the Qur’an holistically, not only from linguistic and historical perspectives, but also by considering its structure, thematic continuity, and the universal objectives of Islamic law. This approach is expected to provide a more contextual understanding of issues such as social justice, religious moderation, human rights, environmental preservation, and the ethics of technological development.

The seminar was held interactively, with a high level of enthusiasm among the participants. The ensuing discussion demonstrated the strong interest of the academic community in advancing Qur’anic exegesis methodologies and exploring opportunities for maqashidi research in Qur’anic studies.

Prof. Hasani’s participation as a speaker at this academic forum represents a form of recognition of his expertise in the field of Maqashidi Qur’anic Exegesis. It also strengthens the academic collaboration network between UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan in advancing innovative, contextual, and public-benefit-oriented Qur’anic studies.
