Pre-PBAK of the Faculty of Ushuluddin UIN Jakarta: Fostering Environmental Awareness through a Campus Clean-Up Action
Jakarta, FU Online News — Environmental awareness was introduced to new students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, through a hands-on activity as part of the Pre-Academic and Student Culture Orientation (Pra-PBAK). Approximately 500 new students, together with the PBAK committee, participated in a campus clean-up activity by walking through several areas of the campus and collecting litter they found. The activity was held on Friday, August 21, 2026.
The activity was initiated by the 2026 Faculty of Ushuluddin PBAK Committee under the leadership of Ahmad Chairul Rasyidin as Chair of the Organizing Committee. The action was designed to introduce students to environmental issues while also supporting the Green Campus agenda of UIN Jakarta.
Unlike student orientation activities that focus solely on delivering materials, this environmental action encouraged students to engage directly with issues in their immediate surroundings. The initiative was in line with the theme of the 2026 Faculty of Ushuluddin PBAK, “Protecting the Earth, Nurturing Islamic Civilization.”
The theme was not merely used as the identity of the program but was translated into an activity that encouraged students to recognize environmental issues and take part in addressing them. Together with the committee, students moved through several areas of the campus to collect litter and subsequently deposited it at designated collection points.
This direct involvement is expected to provide students with an early experience of how environmental awareness can be developed through simple actions. Ecological awareness cannot be built solely through slogans or campaigns; it must also be reflected in everyday behavior.
The Chair of the 2026 Faculty of Ushuluddin PBAK Committee, Ahmad Chairul Rasyidin, explained that the activity was deliberately designed so that the message conveyed through PBAK could be experienced firsthand.
“We wanted the theme we carry to go beyond being merely a narrative. There are simple actions that can be carried out together, and we chose to start with our campus environment. We hope students will develop an awareness that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility,” said Rasyid.
Rasyid added that the activity is expected to become a starting point for more consistent student involvement in environmental preservation. According to him, ecological awareness needs to be cultivated as a habit rather than emerging only when a particular activity is held.
“We hope that after this activity, it is not only the campus environment that becomes cleaner. We want students to remain actively involved and develop a genuine concern for protecting the environment in their daily activities,” he added.
For the Faculty of Ushuluddin, environmental awareness is also closely connected to Islamic values. Environmental issues are not viewed merely as matters of cleanliness, but also as part of the human responsibility to care for the Earth and preserve the sustainability of the shared living environment.
Through Pra-PBAK 2026, approximately 500 new students were introduced to these values through a simple and meaningful action. The campus clean-up activity served as both a learning experience and an invitation to build environmental awareness collectively.
Ultimately, protecting the Earth does not always require major actions. Change can begin with simple steps, from our immediate surroundings, and from each individual’s willingness to take responsibility for the shared spaces in which we live and interact.
