Monitoring Public Policy, AFI UIN Jakarta Students Review the Implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals Program at SDN 01 Rawa Buntu

South Tangerang, FU Online News – Students of the Aqidah and Islamic Philosophy (AFI) Study Program, Faculty of Ushuluddin, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, conducted a field survey and research on the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program at SDN 01 Rawa Buntu, South Tangerang, on Wednesday (May 13, 2026). The activity was part of a field assignment for the Citizenship Education course taught by M. Najib Tsauri, S.Th.I., M.Ag.

The activity aimed to provide students with direct experience in examining the implementation of public policies related to the fulfillment of citizens’ rights, particularly in the fields of education, health, and social welfare. The survey team consisted of Muhammad Bagus Riadi, Syifa Ihusna, Haritz Amanullah Haqi, Nadia Ernawati, Jafar Shodiq, Ahwaz Adwa Sumantri, and Malik Tival Hakim.

In carrying out the research, students employed observation and in-depth interview methods involving school principals, teachers, parents, and students. This approach was intended to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals Program within the school environment.

The lecturer of the Citizenship Education course, M. Najib Tsauri, S.Th.I., M.Ag., emphasized that field research is an essential component of the learning process, as it enables students to understand the practical implementation of public policies.

“Students are not only expected to learn theories in the classroom but are also trained to conduct observations, interviews, data analysis, and formulate recommendations based on field findings. Through this process, they can better understand the relationship between public policy and the fulfillment of citizens’ rights,” he stated.

The survey began with direct observation of the implementation of the MBG Program at SDN 01 Rawa Buntu. Students examined the food distribution process, supporting facilities, and interactions between teachers and students during mealtime activities. In addition, interviews were conducted to gather information regarding the benefits, challenges, and effectiveness of the program in supporting teaching and learning activities.

The research findings indicate that the Free Nutritious Meals Program at SDN 01 Rawa Buntu is implemented regularly on every school day under the supervision of teachers. Meals provided by official government partners are distributed during recess and inspected by the school principal to ensure quality and suitability before being served to students.

The school reported that the program has been running smoothly without significant obstacles in food delivery and distribution. From an educational perspective, the program has positively contributed to students’ motivation and learning concentration. Teachers observed that students became more focused during lessons, more active in classroom activities, and less likely to feel hungry or sleepy throughout the learning process.

In addition to supporting educational activities, the MBG Program has also provided economic benefits to students’ families. Several parents stated that the program helps reduce household expenses, as their children receive nutritious meals free of charge at school. For lower-income families, this assistance serves as meaningful support in meeting children's nutritional needs.

Nevertheless, the research team identified several points for evaluation. Some students reported that the taste of the meals did not always match their preferences. Additionally, there were instances where the food arrived cold, and certain menu items were less favored, particularly by younger students.

Based on these findings, the students recommended periodic evaluations of menu quality, food variety, and distribution systems to ensure that the program’s objectives can be achieved more effectively and in accordance with students’ needs.

Through this field survey, AFI students not only gained valuable research experience but also developed their analytical skills in assessing public policy implementation. The activity strengthened their understanding of citizenship values and the role of the state in fulfilling the fundamental rights of citizens through programs that directly impact society.
