FU UIN Jakarta Collaborates with RRI to Hold Seminar
The Faculty of Ushuluddin at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah collaborated with Radio Republik Indonesia to hold a seminar titled "Archipelago's Veranda: Collaboration for Peaceful Media, Youth, and Deradicalization Efforts." The event was held at the H.A.R. Partosentono Theater, 4th floor, Faculty of Ushuluddin, UIN Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The seminar invited several speakers: Dr. Hj. Yuminah Rahmatullah, MA. (Lecturer at the Faculty of Ushuluddin), Dra. Besty Charmin Simatupang, M.Si (Head of News Center, LPP RRI), Muhamad Sofyan, M.Si (Deradicalization Activist), and Agus Isnaini, M.Si (Densus 88 Polri). The event was moderated by Fahmi Adrian.
The event began with a special performance by Rimar Callista (Winner of Indonesian Idol 2021), who sang her latest single, released this June.
The first speaker, Dra. Besty Charmin Simatupang, M.Si, explained the role of media in providing accurate information free from radical ideologies.
Next, the second speaker, Muhamad Sofyan, M.Si, discussed the comparison of radical ideology spread in the 90s versus today. He stated that social media is no longer controllable, so parents must be active in guiding their children to prevent radicalization through social media.
"Gen Z has become a fertile ground for radicalization to spread their understanding because Gen Z is still searching for their identity and is easily infiltrated," Sofyan said. He also advised students to filter news from social media to avoid adopting radical ideologies.
Then, the third speaker, Dr. Hj. Yuminah Rahmatullah, MA., explained how the NII ideology infiltrated campuses and brainwashed students. "Initially, they were invited to gather and discuss Islamic religious understanding, and then slowly they infiltrated their own ideology," she stated.
Finally, the last speaker, Agus Isnaini, M.Si, explained how radical organizations spread their ideology to lower-class communities. "These radical groups spread radical ideology by luring people with money or jobs, making them interested in joining their groups," Sofyan said.
The event concluded with a Q&A session for students and viewers watching the live stream on Instagram and YouTube, followed by a group photo.
