The Fatahillah Essay Competition (FEC) 2024 officially launched an ISBN-registered essay anthology book as an academic output of a national-level essay competition organized by students of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. This competition carried the theme “The Existence of Religion in Sustainable Development” and served as a platform for students’ intellectual actualization in responding to contemporary religious and social issues.

FEC 2024 was designed as a space for academic dialogue that encourages the emergence of critical, reflective, and solution-oriented ideas from students across various higher education institutions. Through this activity, students not only competed academically, but also contributed to strengthening the tradition of literacy and the development of contextual Islamic thought.

The Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of FEC 2024, Hestiningtyas Jayantri Hariyanto (Student of the AFI Study Program, Class of 2022), expressed her appreciation for the collaboration of various parties in ensuring the success of this event. FEC 2024 was the result of cooperation between the Autonomous Organization (LO) Fatahillah Researchers for Science and Humanity (FRESH) together with the 2024 Chair of FRESH, Muhammad Rifki (Student of the IH Study Program, Class of 2021), the Program Supervisor Alief Fikri Nurham (Student of the IAT Study Program, Class of 2020), and the support of Dr. Eva Nugraha, M.Ag., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Ushuluddin. Additional support was provided by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni, various Student Activity Units (UKM) and Autonomous Organizations, the Training and Education Center of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as the academic community of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.

As its main academic output, the organizing committee published an essay anthology book containing the best works of the finalists of FEC 2024. The book, consisting of xii + 152 pages and measuring 14.5 × 20.5 cm, was published by Mata Kata Inspirasi (first edition, August 2025) and written by the competition finalists. The editorial process was handled by Nadira Putri Madani, the layout by Zam Zam Iskandar, and the cover design by Salsabila Balqis Wijaya. The book has been officially published and holds the ISBN 978-634-7382-22-1.

Thematically, the anthology discusses the role of religion as a moral compass and an intellectual manifestation in building a civilization that is sensitive to global issues, adaptive to technological developments, and oriented toward just and sustainable public policies. These ideas reaffirm the relevance of religion in responding to the dynamics of the times in a contextual and constructive manner.

The publication of this book stems from the spirit of UIN Jakarta students to provide an inclusive and reflective space for academic expression. The compilation of the book was carried out collectively by UIN Jakarta students in collaboration with the publisher, as part of efforts to disseminate knowledge, strengthen literacy culture, and develop intellectual traditions within the campus environment. In addition to the printed version, the FEC 2024 essay anthology is also available in e-book format and can be accessed via the barcode provided.

It is hoped that the publication of this anthology book will encourage the creation of a productive academic atmosphere among students and inspire the emergence of future student intellectual works.
