Faculty of Ushuluddin Holds Studium General on Contemporary Geopolitical Challenges and the Strategic Position of the Muslim World

Jakarta, FU Online News — The Faculty of Ushuluddin at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a Studium General themed “Islam and Current Geopolitics: Challenges, Realities, and the Muslim World’s Strategic Position” on Tuesday (May 21, 2026) at the Faculty of Ushuluddin Theater. The event featured the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, as the keynote speaker.

The event was opened by MC Latifah Zahra, followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an and the singing of the national anthems of Indonesia and Iran, conducted by Eka Maulidya Zahra. The Studium General was then officially opened through remarks delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Ismatu Ropi, who emphasized the importance of academic forums as spaces for intellectual dialogue to enrich the perspectives of students and the academic community in understanding global dynamics.

In his presentation, Mohammad Boroujerdi highlighted several contemporary geopolitical issues, ranging from the importance of Muslim unity, the challenges of sectarian polarization, to the dynamics of international relations affecting the position of the Muslim world amid shifts in the global order. He stressed that differences of opinion within the Muslim community should become subjects of academic study approached scientifically, rather than sources of division within society.

The speaker also shared his views on Iran’s resilience in facing international geopolitical pressures. According to him, the strength of a nation is determined not only by defense capabilities, but also by strategic leadership, social unity, faith, and the ability to build national self-reliance.

In addition, he addressed various international conflict dynamics and criticized double standards in global politics and the enforcement of international law. In this context, he encouraged academics and students to develop sensitivity toward changes in global geopolitics, maintain the integrity of information, and actively contribute academic perspectives that support peace and humanity.

Concluding his presentation, the speaker outlined four important points for the academic community to consider: the importance of deeply understanding changes in the global order, providing accurate analysis to policymakers, maintaining honesty in public information, and positioning campuses as part of an intellectual movement in defending the values of humanity and world peace.

The event continued with an interactive question-and-answer session. Students from various study programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate levels, raised questions regarding post-conflict geopolitical dynamics, the spirit of Iran’s resilience, and the role of the Muslim world in addressing today’s global challenges.

This Studium General is part of the Faculty of Ushuluddin UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta’s efforts to provide academic forums that broaden students’ perspectives on international issues while strengthening the tradition of scholarly dialogue in responding to global challenges critically and constructively.
