INTRODUCTION

The messages, teachings and values of the Qur'an are universal and eternal; from the past, present, and for the future. While time and place continue to change and shift. Likewise, problems and issues of humanity, nature, and the environment always emerge and change following the development of time itself. Based on this, it is necessary to translate the messages of the Qur'an according to the context and era in order to be able to answer various problems. To translate it, an approach and method are needed that are appropriate to the context without having to eliminate its universal message.

In translating and delivering messages, in addition to the influence of the environment and context, there is also the influence of the interpreter's knowledge. Therefore, the results of interpretation using an approach and method cannot be separated from the paradigm, worldview, and ideology of the interpreter. In fact, the verses of the Qur'an were revealed because there were reasons for their revelation, asbab al-nuzul.

The description above is the background for the implementation of this Short Course. In addition, institutionally, the vision and mission of UIN Jakarta mandates to always renew thinking and be able to provide solutions to problems faced by humanity and especially the Indonesian people and nation.
