Earth Day Momentum, the Faculty of Ushuluddin UIN Jakarta Strengthens Its Commitment to a Green Campus

Jakarta, FU Online News – The Faculty of Ushuluddin at UIN Jakarta held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled “Green Metrics and SDGs: Optimizing the Realization of a Green Campus at the Faculty of Ushuluddin” on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in conjunction with Earth Day. The event took place in the 4th Floor Meeting Room of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and was attended by 45 participants, including faculty leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, and students.

The FGD was opened with remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Prof. Ismatu Ropi, who emphasized the importance of building a green campus culture starting from simple actions such as proper waste management and maintaining cleanliness. He highlighted the strategic role of the Faculty of Ushuluddin as the “heart” of UIN Jakarta in shaping a sustainable academic culture.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Green Campus Center of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Hendrawati, underlined the importance of controlling behaviors that impact the environment, such as smoking habits, as well as optimizing environmentally friendly facilities, including energy efficiency and the use of open spaces.

During the presentation session, speakers Kusairi and Johan Aristya Lesmana explained that the success of green campus implementation depends not only on policies and infrastructure but also on behavioral changes among the academic community. The concepts of awareness, willingness, and action are key to building a sustainable environmentally friendly culture.

Furthermore, the speakers linked the implementation to the standards of UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, which include six main indicators: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water usage, transportation, and education and research. In this context, the Faculty of Ushuluddin is expected to contribute more optimally to supporting the university’s green campus achievements.

Entering the group discussion and plenary sessions, participants reviewed the monitoring and evaluation results, which indicated that the implementation of the green campus program at the Faculty of Ushuluddin has progressed positively at an early stage but still requires strengthening in various aspects.

Key strategic issues discussed included improving the quality of worship and sanitation facilities, optimizing green open spaces, enhancing energy efficiency, developing integrated waste management systems, and promoting environmentally friendly transportation systems. In addition, governance, policy enforcement, and the integration of environmental issues into education and research were also highlighted as major priorities.

Through the plenary forum, participants agreed on several strategic recommendations, including strengthening environmentally friendly infrastructure, implementing renewable energy such as solar panels, developing sustainable waste management systems, and integrating environmental values into academic activities.

This FGD is expected to serve as an initial step in strengthening the Faculty of Ushuluddin’s commitment toward a sustainable green campus, while also contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the involvement of all members of the academic community, the transformation toward an environmentally conscious culture is believed to be achievable collectively and sustainably.
